👇కింది Examples గమనించండి.
was = గతంలో ఉండటం.
Singular subjects (I/He/She/It) కు was.
were = గతంలో ఉండటం.
Plural subjects (we/you/they) కు were.
a) I was in Nellore yesterday.
[నేను నిన్న నెల్లూర్లో ఉన్నాను (గతం)]
b) I was not a student at that college.
     [నేను ఆ కళాశాల విద్యార్థిని కాను. (ఉండలేదు)]
c) Was he your classmate?
    [అతడు నీ క్లాస్‌మేటా? (గతంలో)]
d) Was she not here last month?
    (ఆమె గత నెల ఇక్కడ లేదా?)
పోల్చండి:
Was she here last month?
(ఆమె గత నెల ఇక్కడ ఉందా?)
e) Where were you last night?
     (నిన్న నువ్వెక్కడన్నావు?/ మీరెక్కడున్నారు?- you = నువ్వు/ మీరు)
f) Why were the students here?
    (ఆ విద్యార్థులు ఇక్కడెందుకున్నారు? - గతంలో)

EXERCISE
Put the following sentences in English.
కింది sentences ను English లో బిగ్గరగా practice చేయండి.
  1) మనమందరం స్నేహితులం (ఇప్పుడు)
  2) ఆ విద్యార్థులు ఇప్పుడిక్కడ ఉన్నారా?
  3) శంకర్ నిన్న ఇక్కడ ఉన్నాడా?
  4) కుమార్, కిరణ్ నిన్న ఇక్కడ లేరు.
  5) మీరు 2007లో ఇక్కడ లేరు.
  6) జగదీష్ నీ స్నేహితుడా? (ఇప్పుడు)
 7) మీరిప్పుడు classmates. School లో కూడా క్లాస్‌మేట్సేనా?
   8) ఆ రోజుల్లో నేనంత clever (తెలివైన) student ను కాను.
   9) నేను భారతీయుడిని కానా?
  10) నిన్న నువ్వు ఎక్కడున్నావు?
   11) నువ్వు ఆ School విద్యార్థివి కావా? (గతంలో)
   12) నిన్న నేనున్నానక్కడ, నువ్వు లేవా?
   13) మొన్నటి question paper చాలా కష్టంగా ఉండింది.
   14) నెహ్రూ పొడుగు (tall) కాదు
   15) గాంధీ ఆంధ్రుడు కాదు.
Answers:
1) We are (ఇప్పుడు) all friends.
2) Are the students here?
3) Was Sankar here yesterday?
4) Kumar and Kiran were not here yesterday?
5) You were not here in 2007
6) Is Jagadish your friend?
7) You are my classmates (now). Were your classmates at school too?
8) I was not a clever student in those days.
9) Am I not an Indian?
10) Where were you yesterday?
11) Were you not a student at that school?
12) I was there yesterday. Were you there too?
13) The question paper the day before yesterday (మొన్న) was tough
14) Nehru was not tall.
15) Gandhi was not an Andhra.
Exercise:
Below is a list of words. Following them are some sentences, each with a blank.
Fill in the blanks with suitable words from the list. Some blanks can be filled with
more than one word.
కింద కొన్నిమాటలూ, వాటి తర్వాత ఖాళీలున్న కొన్ని వాక్యాలూ ఉన్నాయి.
ఆ ఖాళీలను మాటలతో పూరించండి. ఒక్కో ఖాళీ రెండు, మూడు మాటలతో కూడా నింపొచ్చు.
సరైన 'be' forms (am, are, was, were) వాడండి.
Words:
Happy (సంతోషంగా ఉన్న)
Sad (దుఃఖంగా ఉన్న),
interesting (ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉన్న),
boring (విసుగు కలిగించే),
tall (పొడవుగా ఉన్న) × short (పొట్టిగా ఉన్న)
actor at college, in the book, clever, foolish etc.
ఇవేకాకుండా సరైనవి, మీకు తోచిన వాటితో కూడా నింపవచ్చు.
Eg:
1. Now, I ....... (be) .....
[be = am, is, are, was, were లలో ఏదైనా ]
Ans: Now I am happy/sad/foolish etc.
2. The movie yesterday ............ (be) ............
3. (be) you ............ now?
4. (be) the picture ............?
5. They are ............
6. The story ............ (be) ............
7. The pictures ............ (be) ............ in the book.
8. Why ............ (be) you ............?
9. ----(be) it a clever thing to do?
10. Why ............ (be) you so happy last night?
Answers:
2. The movie yesterday was interesting/boring.
3. Are you happy/sad now?
4. Was/as the picture interesting? / boring? / in the book?
5. They are happy / sad / clever / tall / short / dull / fat -
     ఇలా ఎన్నిమాటలైనా వాడొచ్చు కదా?
* They (ఒకవేళ వస్తువులైతే) are cheap/costly/beautiful/heavy (బరువు) not good / not bad / from America etc.
6. The story was / is interesting / boring / lengthy / short / dull (uninteresting)
7. The pictures are/were in the book.
8. Why -are you there? Why Were you there? Why are you / were you happy? / sad? / interested? / dull? etc.
9. Is/was it a clever thing to do?
10. Why were you so happy last night? (so happy = అంత సంతోషంగా)
